Mustad Classic O'Shaughnessy Bait Hook – Stainless Steel (34007-SS)

Best use:
Mustad calls this line Spinner Bait Hooks, and 2 and 4 are the sizes that ride right behind a skirt — run one as a trailer hook on a spinnerbait or buzzbait. It is also Mustad's long-bait saltwater hook and a standard base hook for saltwater flies.

Avoid when:
Avoid it on fish you plan to release: stainless resists corrosion by design, so a hook left in a fish stays a hook where carbon steel rusts out. Avoid it too if you want a jig hook — this is a straight O'Shaughnessy with no jig angle at the eye.

The 34007-SS is the classic O'Shaughnessy in stainless steel: forged wire, a long shank, a ringed eye. The pack reads O'Shaughnessy Stainless Steel, REF 34007-SS, Mustad's Classic line. Stocked in size 2 and size 4, 100 hooks to a sealed pack.

Why it works:
The stainless is the point — the material, not a finish over it. A trailer hook rides wet behind the skirt between trips, and that is where a plated hook gives up first. The long shank and O'Shaughnessy bend hold a long bait along the shank instead of bunching it on the bend — Mustad's stated design intent. The wire is forged and Nor-Tempered. Mustad claims its point cuts penetration resistance 50% against the standard Classic point — Mustad's number, untested by us.

Behind a spinnerbait or buzzbait in freshwater, and inshore or offshore on the species Mustad names for the series — Whiting, Sea Robin, Sea Bass, Cod, Bluefish and Striped Bass.
