Technical Specifications

The LB-3100 is a 1/2 oz Football jig head painted in Black (Pro-Tec #05) and assembled in the USA exclusively for LunkrBytes by a small American craftsman. Every head is poured, painted with a chip-resistant Pro-Tec finish, fitted with a Mustad 4/0 black nickel hook and a medium black fiber weedguard, then inspected before packaging. Slide any replacement bass jig skirt straight onto the collar — or hand-tie your own skirt directly to the collar for a more secure hold than a standard banded skirt.

Color: Black — Pro-Tec #05

Standard Black with a high-gloss cured finish — the sharpest possible silhouette against any sky condition or water color. Fish it after cold fronts, at night, and in dark-stained water where natural colors disappear. Black forces a reaction when nothing else gets bit.

Why the Football Head?

The stand-up football shape keeps your hook at a 45-degree defensive angle on the bottom — exactly how a crawfish positions itself when threatened. When you stop the retrieve the jig does not just sit flat: it stands, presenting the hook upward for a clean, efficient hookset while the wide head rocks back and forth with the bottom current.

Technique

Drag slowly on a semi-tight line with a heavy action rod and 15-17 lb fluorocarbon. When you feel the head wobble, you have bottom contact. Stop on the wobble and let neutral fish commit.

The workhorse configuration — reliable snag resistance in brush, laydowns, and scattered rock while maintaining a high hook-up ratio. Right choice for 90% of bass fishing situations.

Trailer Synergy

4" chunk or craw (Zoom Super Chunk, Strike King Rage Tail). A full-size trailer increases bottom displacement — gives deep-water bass a bigger target to commit to.

Night fishing: Switch to this head at dusk on main lake points. A black football head dragged at 15-25 feet on a tight line is one of the most consistent nighttime ledge patterns on Alabama and Georgia impoundments. Keep the rod still — the wobble does the work.

Skirt Trimming Tip

Taper the front strands slightly shorter than the rear strands — a "flowing tail" profile that adds movement on a slow drag. This forward taper is particularly effective on deep ledge fish that track the bait before committing.
