The LB-3403 is a 5/16 oz Ball Head jig head painted in Brown (Pro-Tec #18) and assembled in the USA exclusively for LunkrBytes by a small American craftsman. Every head is poured, painted with a chip-resistant Pro-Tec finish, fitted with a Mustad 4/0 black nickel hook and a medium brown fiber weedguard, then inspected before packaging. Slide any replacement bass jig skirt straight onto the collar — or hand-tie your own skirt directly to the collar for a more secure hold than a standard banded skirt.
Color: Brown — Pro-Tec #18
Brown is the crawfish colour, and this is the plainest, most useful version of it — Pro-Tec #18 over a round head, no flake, no overcoat. It reads as a crawfish backed against gravel or a clay bank, which is exactly what a bass on a rock point is looking at most of the year. When the water has a little stain and green pumpkin looks washed out, brown still has an edge.
Why the Ball Head?
The round ball head has no sharp angles to create drag — it falls naturally with minimal resistance, giving your trailer the most lifelike action possible on the descent. The subtlety specialist.
At 5/16 oz this is the finesse end of the ball-head range. It falls slowly enough that a bass tracking it down has time to commit, which is the whole point on a pressured clear-water point.
Best For / Avoid
- Best For: Rock points, chunk-rock banks, clay banks, gravel flats and bluff ends — anywhere bass are eating crawfish.
- Avoid: Open-water shad situations and heavy matted grass. Brown is a bottom colour, and a ball head is not a flipping head.
- Depth Range: 5–25 feet
- Prime Seasons: Pre-spawn and fall, when crawfish are the primary forage; year-round on rocky highland reservoirs.
Technique
10–12 lb fluorocarbon on spinning gear. Work rock points, chunk-rock banks and dock corners. Let it fall on semi-slack line and watch the line as much as you feel the rod — on the lighter head the bite is usually a tick, not a thump.
Weedguard: Medium — 21-Strand Brown
Brown fiber on a brown head instead of the usual black — the guard disappears into the paint rather than striping the head with a dark bar. Same medium density we use across the line: reliable snag resistance in brush, laydowns and scattered rock while keeping a high hook-up ratio.
Trailer Synergy
A 3" craw or a compact creature bait. Brown-on-brown with a green-pumpkin trailer is the highest-percentage crawfish presentation there is, and the 5/16 head keeps the whole package small enough for cold or clear water.
Pro Tip: Brown + Ball Head
Drag it, do not hop it. A crawfish on the bottom crawls far more often than it flees. Pull the rod slowly from 9 o'clock to 11, pause, and reel down. Most brown-jig bites come on the pause at the end of that drag.
Skirt Trimming Tip
Trim to the hook bend for a compact crawfish profile. A brown jig is imitating something roughly two inches long — a full, bushy skirt makes it read as something else. One clean cut with sharp scissors across all strands.
